Stay-at-home dads and child custody

Unfortunately, custody laws in the U.S. aren’t as gender neutral as you may think. Many early custody cases show a preference for giving mothers custody of young children over fathers because they are considered to be the primary caregiver. While the laws in many states have since been rewritten to be more progressive, the majority of judges dealing with child custody cases still prefer to award custody to a “stay-at-home” parent.
