Pet custody laws in Florida

Splitting up with your spouse is hard enough, but another potential issue that is usually not thought of beforehand is who gets custody of the family pet(s). Pets are considered property under Florida law, and there isn’t an authority which grants custody or visitation of personal property in the state. Most of these issues must be settled in court while negotiating other personal property.
